Boats were used by Native
Americans for transportation and were crucial to their way of life.
Boat building skills were
passed from generation to generation.
The
“Native
American Boat-Building Traditions”
exhibit at the new Smithsonian's National Museum of the American
Indian will present master boat-builders and their apprentices
constructing their native boats.
Included will be: Hawaiian Fishing
Canoe; Totora-Reed Boat; Kayak; Birch-Bark Canoe; Plains Bull Boat; and a
Northwest Coast Carved Canoe.
